Julia Rose Balowski
Center Assistant since 2023 Julia Balowski studied Bioelectrical Engineering in the US and worked for several years in the medical and engineering sectors. In 2020 she began a M.Sc. in Neuroengineering at TUM, and in Fall 2022 she joined CDTM as a student. In March 2023, she joined the Management Team and was responsible for MPD, ImpACTup!, curriculum development, and abroad partnerships. Julia is currently finishing up her doctoral research at the TUM CIT Chair of Neuroengineering Materials, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Kristen Kozielski. Her research focuses on the design, synthesis, and characterization of magnetoelectric nanoparticles (MENPs) for wireless neuromodulation. By coupling magnetostrictive and piezoelectric materials, these nanomaterials convert externally applied magnetic fields into localized electrical stimuli, enabling minimally invasive modulation of neural activity without implanted electrodes. Her work encompasses nanomaterial synthesis, physicochemical characterization, and electromagnetic stimulation system design, with the broader goal of advancing next-generation bioelectronic therapies for neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders.
